Photo Album 31 - Last Days in Cairo

We took one more trip to the Khan El Khalili to pick up souvenirs for friends and family.

Teri bought some cumin at a spice market.

Me at a mosque in the Citadel of Salah El Din.

This mosque was built using parts of old churches. You can see a small cross at the top of this column.

The word "Allah" is inscribed at the top of this alcove.

The Mosque of Muhammad Ali, built in the 1800's.

The interior of the Muhammad Ali mosque.

The Citadel included an Egyptian military museum where we saw this "Fateh 2" missile used on the "Kuwait war of 1991" to destroy mine fields.

This Soviet-made Egyptian MIG was on display.

There were paintings depicting wars in Egypt's history that reminded me of paintings I've seen of the American Revolution or the Civil War.

There were also several cases containing examples of midieval Muslim weaponry.

There was also a painting depicting Egyptian president Anwar Sadat, American president Jimmy Carter, and Prime Minister of Israel, Menachem Began signing the Egyptian/Israeli peace agreement in the 70's.

The newly rennovated Coptic Museum in Coptic Cairo opened only two weeks before we left Egypt.

Ancient Christian artifacts were collected in the museum. Here is an Ankh, a symbol dating back to pharaonic times surrounded by Christian crosses.

An ornately carved cross.

This symbol, which is commonly associated with Islam, was originally a Coptic Christian symol that dates back to the 4th century.

A bible written in the Coptic and Arabic languages.

A litter inlaid with mother of pearl like this were used to carry women to Jerusalem.

A slow day on the Metro. Normally this car is so packed we are pressed in like standing sardines.

Last trip to the Pyramids to say goodbye.

One last meal of Kusheri and a fuul sandwich.

A photo of a page from ENGLISH minutes at the Synod of the Nile. They are from Friday, April 13th, 1860, nearly a year before Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as president.

Me and my friends from the Synod of the Nile.

Me and my friend Jakline. She became teary-eyed just a few moments after this picture was made. I had no idea I had affected her so much.

I am enjoying my last fresh Mango juice.

Me and my friend "Ramsis." He had visited America a little over a year ago and got a Hard Rock Cafe shirt in Boston. I got mine in Cairo.
